Teddy Bear History
On November 14, 1902, the 26th President of the United States, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, went to Mississippi to settle a border dispute between Mississippi and Louisiana. While there, Roosevelt agreed to join in a bear hunt. Accustomed to a strenuous, physical hunt, he was a bit dismayed by the unfamiliar method of using packs of dogs to track and chase prey leaving the hunter to only wait for his animalHunting conditions proved unfavorable for the president and late into the day he still hadn't had success. Determined to find a suitable quarry for his president, guide Holt Collier set off to find him a bear. Tracking a 235 pound bear to a water hole, he clubbed it over the head and tied it to a...
For most of the 20th century, life used to be rather simple for most people. There was school, college, work, retirement. Along with that you had hobbies like cars, bowling, or gardening. The former was more or a less of a chore, the latter the fun stuff you did in your free time, usually together with local friends from the same neighborhood. This was basically the same as a thousand years ago. For a few lucky people the two areas overlapped and they could do the stuff that they liked as their main job. Now, in the last 10 years of the 20th century, as well as in the first few years of the 21st, this has been changing rather dramatically. The reason is the rapid technical progress, both in the wide...

How to Build a Tree House
Building a tree house is lots of fun. First you need to start off with a plan based on the tree you are using; every good construction project begins with a well written plan and yours should be no exception. Once you have drawn up your plan you will have to buy the materials you need. You should start building the supports all the while making sure that it lines up with the plan. Next you should build the floor but be careful that you make it strong enough to hold up to four hundred pounds. Then it is best to build the walls on the ground and the raise them on to the tree house were you can screw them in. The roof can be difficult but if you have a helper you should be able to mange...
Keeping Safe from Wild Animals
There are times when the hunters will face some danger, specially the danger from the wild animal's attach such as bear. What will be the best way for him to do? My companion looked at me, I looked at him, and the same idea hit us at the same moment. What would have happened if we had hit that bear? Would we have killed it or would we have wounded it? In either case it would have fallen and landed in or near our canoe. A dead bear would have broken the canoe in half, falling from a hundred feet. But suppose the bear had been wounded? Think of the situation. Two men and a wounded bear struggling in the water within eight feet of each other. What a scene for a movie shot! The best of us will make...
The Grand Bleu De Gascogne: King of Hounds
This large and leggy hound is well known outside of France, its country of origin, even though there are few examples of the breed elsewhere except in the dog shows of Europe and Great Britain. This breed is often termed the "King of Hounds" because of its remarkable stature and great beauty. Furthermore this hound is noted for its tenacity on the hunt and its deep and melodious voice. The Grand Bleu is tall but proportionate in size and is marked with black patches on a mottled roan background with tan. The black patches on the head must always cover both ears and the sides of the head and the entire body is so mottled as to leave the impression of blue roan coloration. There are four dogs...
The dividing lines among custom, vintage and collectible fountain pens often get blurred. A vintage pen can be customized and added to a collection. Collectible fountain pens may include vintage, custom-made and customized vintage pens. Any fountain pen, new or vintage, customized or ordinary, qualifies for collection if it appeals to the fountain pen collector. A simple and plain look, a gaudy design or an ancient technique can enthuse a pen collector. There is no limit to the criteria for a fountain pen collection. The reasons could be as varying as the number of fountain pens. Costs do not deter fountain pen lovers from possessing their objects of desire.Collecting new pens is easier, just like...
Keeping Your Home Safe
For any home owner the need to keep their home safe is a paramount concern. Many people seem to feel that going out and buying a gun is the simple answer. The statistics have shown that this is simply not true. The numbers prove that having guns in the home makes it far more possible that an injury will occur to a loved one. Without the need for firearms there are some great ways that a home owner can ensure the safety of their families and possessions. These are some pretty basic methods but they have shown over time that they work and help to deter crime in the home safely. The first thing that any home owner should do is have a security system installed in their home, preferably one with an...

Dachshund - The "Weiner Dog" Breed...
Dachshunds originated in Germany and are known to have existed as far back as the 16th century. Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers, wild boar and other types of small animals. In German, Dachs means badger and Hund means dog, showing the emphasis the breeding pattern had on the hunting of the badger.Dachshunds have a fearless kind of attitude about them handed down from their ancestry of hunting. The original breed was quite large compared to the CKC/AKC standards of today, averaging 30 to 40 pounds. Eventually this size was branched off into smaller categories for individual hunting of smaller prey such as a fox or rabbit.Dachshunds are unique in that they were used to actually hunt their...
Getting Rid of Red Eye
The photos you took of the party are really great - except for one thing: "red eye" makes everyone look like extras from a low budget horror movie! Red eye can be a real problem if you're taking photos with a flash. It's caused by the reaction of light from the flash on the inner workings of your eye. Pictures of animals (especially cats) can suffer from a similar condition know as "pet eye".Photoshop offers a solution to this problem, and while it can't make things look exactly the way they should have been, it can make the people (or pets) in your pictures look less "possessed".The first thing to do is upload your photos into your computer, or scan them in if you're working from prints, then...
Simulation games create a whole new world to explore, one that is virtually realistic. They represent a virtual environment, with virtual characters having interesting and life-like interactions between the various components of a virtual world. The graphics and sounds are often amazingly close to reality. Everything seems real, from the weather conditions over the Pacific in air combat games to the geography of lands in strategy games. They are a new, higher pedestal of gaming, often combining elements of skill, chance and strategy, (like for a civilization building game), wherein real as well as fictional worlds may be simulated and often you see the world through the eyes of a fictitious character...
There is now a video games console to suit practically every need, taste and budget. Alaska - Bison Big Game Animal
The American bison is one of several big game animals in Alaska. The bison was transplanted to Alaska from Montana in 1928, after becoming almost extinct in America. Twenty of these animals were delivered to an area around Delta Junction and by 1985 the population had grown to approximately 700.The bison is a spectacular animal in size, measuring six feet at the shoulders, almost ten feet long and weighing over a ton. The head and front quarters are the largest part of the body, making this section look out of proportion to the hind quarters, which are smaller. The bison sheds its coat in the spring of the year, after winter is over. Then, in the fall, it grows its winter coat, which is a rich...
Have you noticed how humans are so into how they look and always doing things to improve their appearance? Some say this is so vain, so ego-centric and so utterly over done. Often we hear people say, what is important is what is on the inside. That of course would be hard to deny through reason, but never the less we are a species, which puts a lot of emphasis in our societies on looks. In reviewing this truth we should stop and take a look also at where this human trait comes from.In essence most species are very concerned with their mate's appearance and this is witnessed, researched and observed throughout the animal kingdom. Some say that this is what drives a species evolution, through the...
The Alaskan Red Fox
Red foxes are similar to dogs, but smaller than their cousins the coyote and the wolf. Male foxes weigh up to 15 pounds; females are a bit smaller. Humans cannot identify a red fox by only its coat color as it varies greatly. Their coats can be red, silver, black, brown, or even mixed colors like brown and black. Many of the different colored foxes are sometimes born in the same litter, but they are still considered to be red foxes. The easiest way to tell a red fox apart from other fox species is by looking at its white-tipped tail. Another unique feature a red fox has is its black stockings and the occasional black-tipped ears.A red fox's tail is thick; it is called a brush and it is used to...

Hunting Is An Art
Hunting is a primitive thing. But what was once the biggest part of survival, has become a treasured outdoor adventure for many people; and rightfully so. It's a great way to relax and play hard at the same time. It's a good time to clear your mind and use all your senses to become one with nature; to stop thinking like a human and start thinking like your prey; and to tune out of the rat race and tune in to God's creation. While you probably won't master it all in your lifetime, you can sure try your hand at much of it, and even become an expert at some types of hunting for wildlife. You can go onto government the land in the U.S. where hunting is allowed and find enough types of wildlife to keep you...

The Toy Fox Terrier - Waiting for Recognition
The Toy Fox Terrier is directly descended from the Smooth Fox Terrier and has long awaited official recognition from some canine organizations. The Smooth Fox Terrier was likely created as a cross between several breeds, including the Dachshund. Later, selective breeding and crossing with some other very small breeds led to the establishment of the Toy Fox Terrier as a separate breed. Some people call this breed the American Toy Terrier. The word "Amertoy" has been coined in connection with the breed as well and it's possible that one of these names will become the official name if the breed is ever formally recognized by the remaining canine clubs. The Fox Terrier was bred for hunting. These dogs...

The History Of Fox Hunting
Fox Hunting has always been seen as a British activity during which highly trained dogs, as well as human hunters on horseback, pursue the red fox. Animal rights activists find the 'blood sport' to be barbaric. However, its participants and proponents see it to be a traditional equestrian sport, as well as an important aspect of England's aristocratic history. In fact, even though it does take place in several countries, its roots can be traced to the British. Known as venery, the use of scent hounds to track prey dates way back to Assyrian, Babylonian, and also ancient Egyptian times. But, it was in England, using the Agassaei breed of dog, that fox hunting was really popular, taking place before...
80's Energy
I wanted to put together a playlist that had a great collection of the hi-energy dance tunes from the 80's so I came up with this mix.I figured I'd start with one of my favorite tunes from the late 80's the freestyle/hi-energy dance tune Fascinated by Company B. I remember hearing this tune for the first time and just going absolutely nuts over it. It's an awesome tune to dance to and I still listen to it today. It definitely has the energy and sound of the 80's, the late Eighties to be exact.Do you all know that Divine the cult drag actor from such films as Hairspray and Pink Flamingos recorded music in the early 80's? Well he did and his singing is pretty bad but good in a weird sort of way. The...
The Fox Terrier
The Fox Terrier's function is that of a dog that will run with the hounds to worry and hold the fox at bay, or hunt by himself for foxes and other vermin. He is traditionally more white than any other color since, as a dog that ran with hounds, it was important that he be distinguishable from the fox. For centuries this dog has been bred "true" (with little variation in appearance or general structure). Long before he was ever in a show ring, this dog was a part of the hunting scene in Great Britain. He is one of the terriers that was bred to "go to ground" when giving chase to the fox.In the late 1860s the dog became a regular entry in dog shows. At that time both the wirehaired and the smooth...
There are many whimsical, fun baby room themes if you are planning on decorating a nursery. Infants need stimulation, so parents get the chance to be kids again and let their playfulness and imagination run wild.A fun, flexible baby room theme is to decorate it in whimsical patterns. Try painting butter yellow or grass green stripes on the walls. Then hang bold graphic pictures of cats and dogs in bright red or blue frames on the walls.Use the same graphic style to paint a toy chest using stencils, or apply stickers against a colorful painted background.Another fun baby room theme is a design around the theme of Sweet Dreams. Use bright colors such as watermelon pink and lime green on accessory...
Let The Addiction Begin! iPods Games Bring It On!
Not sure about all of you out there but I was a product of the Eighties. I was one of those kids that grew up with the old school Atari and Commodore 64 systems. For some reason I have found that many of us from this generation and forward are highly addicted to games. There is something magical about a game. In fact it can almost be any type of game as long as it fills long gaps of boredom easily and transports you to a happy time and place away from the reality of the world. Even if this is just a short term fix that lasts for only 15 minutes a game can be such a wonderful escape. Sure the psychologists will throw up their arms about your coping mechanisms and your parents or wife will nag...
By the end of the 1980's the world population of mountain gorillas was on the verge of extinction. In 2004 a census report (the first since 1989) revealed that in the virunga-mountain region the gorilla population had increased by 17%. Though this has to count as one of the great conservation success stories like almost all the other great apes, gorillas are still endangered. Some subspecies are in fact listed as critically endangered, and unless a concerted worldwide effort is made, this magnificent species will unfortunately go the way of the Dodo. The reason why this has to be a worldwide effort may not be immediately obvious, so let's first identify the current and most pervasive threats to the...
Graduation Parties: The Celebration of a...
It is best, especially when the graduating classes are large, and each graduate is to be invited, for several parents to share the work and expense of graduation parties, but the good news is, these parties require little supervision and are best held outside. Other options for graduation party locations are: Outdoor pools (where it is warm enough, or indoor pools, where it is not) skating rink rentals, or teen clubs rented for the evening.Make invitations that look like diplomas, specifying the party location and rules. Then send them to each child in the graduating class. This party should be held on a Friday or Saturday night. Since most graduates have a party planned for the night of the...

As we move into the 21st century Western democracies are more and more becoming involved in the trivia of peoples lives. All governments, no matter what their political leaning seem to be under the impression that they know what is best for each and every one of us. Instead of involving themselves in the great issues of the day they are increasingly legislating on details about how we conduct our lives on a daily basis. Instructing us on what generally we cannot do. Western societies are as a result becoming more and more restrictive. Vocal and active minorities have more and more influence over the legislators. The vast majority of the populations are apathetic and hold no strong views one way or...

What Toys Did Caveman Kids Play With To Pass...
Back in the days, when home was a cave stuck on the face of a cliff.Kids, babies, cubs, kittens or whatever you like to call the offspring, all have one thing in common. They love to play. So I think we can safely assume that caveman kids played. But with what did they play with. What amused the minds of our ancestor's kids. When they were lying around the fire after a hard day learning about staying alive. We are still trying to work out the minor details of the past lives of children of prehistory, but we can dream.Anyway, were the first jigsaw puzzles just leaves that had been ripped up into little pieces so the little ones could put them back together. Was this a teaching aid so the kids could...
Ordinance has the right idea, but the wrong cartridge. It looks like they're trying to replace both the 5.56 and the 7.62 with the SOCOR 6.8mm. I think for a light, crew served weapon they should go back to the full 30.06 machine gun and get rid of the .308 entirely. In a previous discussion I indicated that the .257 would be a good replacement for the .223. I've been researching it further, and it looks like a 6mm (.243) "secant ogive" of 87 grains would give the best results. With a ballistic coefficient of about .400 its superior to the 62 grain 5.56, and still has decent velocity. As you might know, the flatter the trajectory, the easier it is to stay on target. This bullet would still be...
Steganography in Principle
1.0 IntroductionSteganography is one of the oldest arts that people have always wanted to have since they started communicating with each other, but sadly the least researched. Most people study steganography either as academic discipline or out of curiosity and I belong to the latter camp. Although steganography is used in military and commercial circuits the level of application and understanding is very low.The term steganography as well cryptography was derived from the Greek language. The prefix crypto comes from the Greek word kryptos, which means hidden or secret. The suffix graphy was derived from graphia, which means writing. Cryptography is essentially the art of secret writing and the...

Wild animals are beautiful creatures with varying sizes, colors, and habitats. Although some can be seen in zoos, the place they are meant to be is in their own environment. Unfortunately, animals such as whales, panda bears and sea otters, are not always safe in these places and are dying out. What is causing their threat of extinction? Several factors have an influence on this growing problem. Pollution Because animals are all intertwined on the food chain, contamination of a water source that a species drinks for example, will not only effect them, but the animal that eats them as well, having the ability to cause cancer and other deadly diseases. If a mother drinks toxins, they become apart of...
Grizzly Bear Hunting Moratoriums in Canada
In March of 2006, the government of Alberta imposed a ban on the hunting of grizzly bears for sport. The move showed a considerable lack of reaction when compared to a similar ban by British Columbia in 2001, and indeed a comparison of the actions in the two provinces sheds a lot of light on the ridiculousness of the whole scenario surrounding the decision in British Columbia. The moratorium on grizzly bears in Alberta was not spearheaded by a coalition of environmental groups who believe in preservation at all costs. On the contrary, it seems as if some of the more famous, if less reputable, groups such as the World Wildlife Fund were totally in the dark about the decision. As late as October of...
There are many types of footwear on the market today depending on what activities you enjoy and what suits your needs as an individual. From posh parties to the beach to a casual shopping trip, what you wear on your feet distinguishes who you are. A day hiking the trails can be a disaster with the wrong footwear. If you are the type of individual that enjoys a number of outdoor activities but none serious enough to warrant specific footwear for each sport, then a multi-sport shoe is for you. This type of footwear is ideal for that walk in the park, a light day hike through a well traveled trail, a fun game in the field, and is a definite life-saver on vacations. It allows you to multi task your...
Why Fear Public Speaking
According to 'The Book of Lists', the fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds of the majority of people. Far above the fear of death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Public speaking is a common source of stress. Many of us would like to avoid this problem entirely, but that is nearly impossible. Whatever our work eventually we will need to speak in public to get certain tasks accomplished. And if we want to be leaders or achieve anything meaningful in our lives, we will often have to speak to groups, large and small, to become successful. But instead of appropriate levels of adrenalin and excitement to optimize our performance, we get a fear response like...
Golden BC Canada, The Outdoor Sportsman's...
